Robot – Virtual Story

Last week, Year 6 students were given a challenge to create their own robot, using recycled materials.

The virtual session started with the students showing and explaining how they made their robot. Then the students were posed with the question, what is a robot? Students started coming up with fictional robots. However, when asked if they have a robot at home, they started thinking that a robot doesn’t need to have human characteristics.

Students started listing places where robots can be used or found. They mentioned construction, factories, homes and hospitals. It was explained that robots are also used in education, to give one to one instruction and also help students with learning difficulties.

Students watched a short clip about Nao, a humanoid robot and observed what the robot can do and how its sensors make it possible for the robot to walk, speak, dance and even recognise faces and objects.
